Project overview
The New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) represents the Olympic and Commonwealth Games in New Zealand, leading national teams and promoting Olympic values. Partnering with Catch Design (digital partner to the NZOC), the goal was to redesign and rebuild the NZOC website and offer a new app to better showcase athlete talent, strengthen public engagement, and elevate the overall digital experience. I worked as Lead Designer for the new website from concept through to testing and final launch.

Challenge
The existing website was outdated, unstable, and underperforming. Key content such as media libraries and feature articles lacked visibility, while engagement typically spiked only during games times. The challenge was to create a more engaging, stable, and user-friendly platform that connected fans with the NZ Team year-round. With a strong brand and world class talent there was also an opportunity to really elevate the overall experience and UI.

Process
User research was conducted to establish a new information architecture and navigation prioritising the most visited areas (Games, Athletes and Sports)
Prototypes were created and tested to refine user flows.
A new design system was developed based on updated brand guidelines with great consideration for the use of colour and cultural pattern designs. This enabled a solid framework to help with consistency, scalability and CMS usability.
Accessible, media-rich pages designed with improved content discoverability.
